The Canadian province of Quebec has announced reopening dates for its business immigration programs, including the popular Quebec Investor Program, which will reopen for up to 1,900 new applications on May 30, 2016. The Entrepreneur and Self-Employed categories reopen with immediate effect, though for only 50 applications each. Candidates for the Investor and Entrepreneur categories with advanced intermediate French proficiency are exempt from the application cap.

On Mar 29, 2012, in an attempt to reduce the huge backlog of FSW appliations , Minister Kenny, Citizenship & Immigration minister proposed a legislation subject to approval under Economic Action Plan 2012. According to this legislation CIC is going to close down the Federal Skilled Worker files that filed on or before Feb 27, 2008 for whome an immigration officer has not made a decision based on selection criteria by March 29, 2012.

On July 1, 2011, the eligibility criteria for Federal Skilled Worker applicants changed.
Between July 1, 2011, and June 30, 2012, a maximum of 10,000 complete Federal Skilled Worker applications will be considered for processing. Within the 10,000 cap, a maximum of 500 Federal Skilled Worker applications per eligible occupation will be considered for processing within this same time frame.

On June 26, 2010, the eligibility criteria for Federal Skilled Worker applicants changed.
Between June 26, 2010, and June 30, 2011, a maximum of 20,000 complete Federal Skilled Worker applications will be considered for processing. Within the 20,000 cap, a maximum of 1,000 Federal Skilled Worker applications per eligible occupation will be considered for processing within this same time frame.
These limits do not apply to applications with an offer of arranged employment (job offer).

The Canadian Government has announced that skilled migrant applicants whose skills are in high demand will be eligible to fast-track their visa applications.
In response to over nearly a million backlogged immigration files and immigration applications often taking up to six years for a decision, this past Friday the Canadian government announced that skilled workers wishing to move to Canada for high-demand jobs would now receive a fast-track immigration service. The reform plan was initially laid out in March 2008 by Diane Farley, who was the immigration minister at the time.
